TREK:

The TREK program (Teamwork, Readiness, Experience, & Knowledge) with the Kentucky River Foothills Development Council is designed to help youth between the ages of 16 – 18 years of age to reach their goals by providing “Teamwork, Readiness, Experience & Knowledge”.

The TREK program serves out-of-school youth in Clark, Estill, and Powell Counties. TREK is designed to work with students on GED preparation, employment and college preparation, leadership development and transportation services. Students in the TREK program are working towards obtaining their GED and gaining employment.

Youth participate in leadership activities highlighting career options, improvement in communication skills, interviewing and job search techniques, teamwork, employer expectations and other topics to assist youth in preparing for the workforce.

TREK students participate in the WIA “Steps to Success” Competition. The competition gives the youth a chance to demonstrate the skills that they have acquired throughout the year and recognizes the accomplishments the youth have achieved.

TREK, designed to ensure the success of participants at each stage of the project, is an innovative approach to youth service delivery that combines real world experience and educational enhancement with life skills and job preparatory skills that lay the foundation in preparing for the workforce.
