PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: The Teacher Assistant is responsible for ensuring the individual health, safety, comfort and education needs of children in care. SPECIFIC DUTIES: 1.Perform certain physical requirements necessary for working with children with and without disabilities and special needs. These physical requirements include, but are not limited to: running, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, sitting on the floor and in small children's chairs, getting up and down from the floor, and lifting children and equipment. Must have, with correction, vision and hearing within normal limits and the capacity to provide the children with an appropriate speech/language model. 2.Ensure adequate supervision of all children assigned to classroom. 3.Report observed and suspected child abuse and neglect according to program policy. 4.Maintain current status of credentials, trainings and certifications to assure compliance with licensing regulations, NAEYC criteria, STARS criteria, Head Start performance standards, and program policies. 5.Work cooperatively with the Lead Teacher to ensure compliance with licensing regulations, NAEYC criteria, STARS criteria, Head Start performance standards, and program policies in assigned classroom. 6.Assist the Lead Teacher in classroom maintenance and management, record keeping, housekeeping, supervision and children's personal hygiene. 7.Assist the Lead Teacher in communication with families. 8.Complete observations and assessments on assigned children. 9.Carry on normal classroom activities when the Lead Teacher is not present. 10.Participate in weekly team meetings to discuss observations of children, staff meeting information and plan curriculum. 11.Have knowledge of and respond to emergencies. 12.Other duties as assigned by the Education Coordinator and Executive Director.
QUALIFICATION/CERTIFICATION: At least 18 years of age. High School Diploma or equivalent, CDA, Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Child and Family Studies, Special Education or related degree.
